Do I need Winter Tyres?

Winter tyres are designed to perform in temperatures of between +7 and -40c. Compounds used in the rubber, are different to the ones used in summer tyres. In extreme conditions, the tread and sidewall on summer tyres will become ridged and inactive, which affects the traction on snow, ice and even wet roads.

Using summer tyres in cold wet conditions, can reduce the tread life, also braking distances will increase.

We now have quite a few customers who change their summer tyres around October/November for a set of winter tyres then change them back after the cold weather period, this saves valuable tread on their summer tyres, as cold wet surface water will decrease the tread life on a summer tyre.
